Po(st)

Today is a national holiday—Sports Day—and ironically the dojo and gym are both closed on Mondays. But the weather is glorious so we decided to do some Urban Hiking. We do that a lot. I figure it’s free and good for you and you never know what you’re going to see.

In Japanese, footsteps are counted in “po”. Ipo, nipo, sampo…(which is also the word for “take a walk”. Go figure.) The pedometer built into my granny phone says that today we did 16,197 po or 10.5 km. I’m tired.

Once, many years ago, we were doing some New Year’s Urban Hiking near Yotsuya and some cop cycles came by with their lights flashing. We stopped to see what was going on and Princess Masako, done up in a white fur and tiara, waved to us from the back of a black car. It was us, for sure. There wasn’t anyone else around. That was the first (and only) time that royalty has played any sort of a role in my life.

Speaking of thrilling, I just got bumped from Freshly Pressed. It’s time to make room for something fresher. So I guess the jet coaster ride is over, but I wanted to thank everyone who’s dropped by in the past couple of days and welcome my new followers. I love reading your comments and hope I’ll be able to continue to write stuff that’s worth reading.
